Continuation of Trial of Online Booking System for One-Off EventsThe ability to book online 24/7 has been added to the way you can reserve your place for all One-Off Events for Term 1, 2015. Following a successful trial of the Trybooking system for the “Lunch with a Local Legend” event in November last year, we have decided to continue the trial across a larger number of events for Term 1 this year. As there is no prepayment needed for any of the Term 1 One-Off Events, there will be no charge to members or U3A for using the system.
Apart from giving our members with internet access the ability to book into events at any time, day or night, convenient to them, the Trybooking system gives members instant confirmation of their booking via email, and also informs the event organiser that a booking has been made. Should the event details be changed or if it has to be cancelled, the system makes it very easy to update members. There are also reports easily available to the organisers showing such things as numbers booked, and names and contact details for each booking.
Members are encouraged to use the system if they are comfortable with it, as it saves time all round. However, it does not, and will not, replace the ability to make phone or email bookings directly with an organiser – rather it is an addition to the ways you can put your name down to attend a One-Off Event. To book using the Trybooking online system, simply look for the booking link in the description of the event you want to attend and either click on it (if you are looking at the Handbook on the internet) or copy it into your browser address bar.
U3A AwardsDo you know someone who works tirelessly for U3A, either as a Course Leader or on the Committee? Or maybe someone who has organised a single stupendous event? If so, please consider nominating them for a U3A Award. Several are available: 5 and 10 year Certificates of Appreciation, Special Commendation and Honorary Life Membership. Download a nomination form from the U3A website where you will also find full details and conditions. You will need to find a seconder for the nomination and be able to provide some details of the person’s service to U3A.
Nominations must be with the Secretary, P.O. Box 798, Merimbula, by Friday 13 February 2015.
Expressions of Interest for Book ClubExpressions of Interest are being sought from members who would like to be involved in setting up a new book club. The group would meet during the second half of each month, with the day andvenue agreed by the members. Readings would be a group-selected choice of recent and favouriteauthors as well as from a starter list provided by the organisers. Information and Registration Day 2015
If you would like to meet the members of the Committee and the Program Subcommittee, and find out more about the courses and events on offer this year, then come along to Twyford Hall in Merimbula between 10:00am and 2:00pm on Wednesday 21 January. You will be able to find out about how to get more involved with U3A as a Course Leader, a Committee member or as a volunteer. If you have not yet renewed your 2015 membership, then you can pay your membership fees on the day. Alternatively, you can renew your membership now by going to the U3A website for details and to download a registration form.

Course Leaders’ Thank You Meeting This meeting will be held at 3:00pm on Wednesday 21 January, Club Sapphire, Merimbula.

Annual General Meeting
The 2015 AGM will be held on Wednesday 4 March, commencing at 2:30pm at the U3A Centre,Tura Beach. Members are invited to attend this meeting and are encouraged to submit items for inclusion in the Agenda to the Secretary 14 days prior to the meeting. Afternoon tea will be provided at the conclusion of the meeting and you are invited to join us. All Committee positions will be declared vacant at the AGM and members interested in joining the Committee are encouraged to nominate for a position. There are five ‘official’ Committee positions – President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Membership Registrar. We also need up to six other people to be elected to the ‘general’ Committee, to fulfill the duties of Course Co-ordinator, Assistant Course Co-ordinator, Newsletter Editor, Publicity Officer, U3A Centre Manager and Communications Officer.
You may only nominate one person per form, and you will need to find a seconder for eachnomination. Nominations must be with the Secretary, P.O. Box 798, Merimbula, by Friday 13 February 2015. See the U3A website for more information or to download a nomination form.
